Black Histories Cyanotype Printing Workshops ⋆ Tierra Negra Arts

History doesn’t have to be boring!

  Learn about Black communities in BC through a fun, 90 minute cyanotype printing workshop!* Cyanotype printing (or sun printing) was invented almost two hundred years ago and was heavily utilized by biologists as a way to easily document flora while out in the field. Since then, cyanotype printing has taken many different forms, and can now be found across many kinds of artistic mediums!

  In this workshop, participants will learn about the rich cultural history of Black community leaders, and get an opportunity to make their own cyanotype print to take home.   No previous artistic experience required. For ages 7 and up!

I had the great fortune of having Ruby Smith-Díaz as a guest speaker in my Afrofuturism in Music classes at SFU and VCC last week. Ruby designed an interactive workshop for us that connected the global history of anti-Blackness, the need for Afrofuturism, and its healing potential for individuals and communities. Ruby is a talented speaker and educator and I highly recommend her if you’re looking for group facilitation or curriculum development work.
