Led by multidisciplinary artist and youth educator Ruby Smith Díaz, this 3 part workshop series took place in the late summer and Fall of 2023, with the support of Yarrow Intergenerational Society for Justice. This workshop series guided participants in the art of cyanotype printing and fotobordado embroidery to depict the histories, relationships and future visions of Black and Chinese communities in the area.
The final session of the Weaving Our Tapestry workshop series was held at the Vancouver Black Library in Chinatown.
This was an incredibly transformative experience for me. I had the privilege to bear witness to powerful story sharing, connecting, and new budding friendships across cultures and ages.
Many participants shared with me that they would miss this space, as place to learn and be easy together. I’m going to miss it a lot too.
